As you look at these pictures keep this in mind: Giant mountains are formed by the whole plate tectonic situation...causing the rise of these mountains. Years and years, and YEARS of water erosion...the water that drains into the pictured river....leaves sand and silt (believe it or not of varying colors- green, purple, red, blue) from these very mountains in the river basin. Then strong winds lift and produce these sand dunes. In essence the sand dunes are the dandruff, the dead skin, of the mountains...and the wind shapes and creates these sand dune creatures. The wind expresses itself in sand...IN SAND! Who knew sand could be beautiful and who knew it could be shaped so differently, and who knew it could sit in miles and miles below snow capped mountains. Similar to Carlsbad caverns, all shocking beauty takes thousands of years to perfect.

Going to this place allows you to overturn the stereotype that wind and rain are not powerful tremendous forces. With one 360 degree turn you can see a true natural cycle at its finest. Go there...go there to realize how unique this world is.

aww, playing in the sand. i know a lot of 5-year-olds that would be jealous(including me)
:) :) :). Wow... what a well written post. I hope people listen and go. It was the first truly special place I had ever been- it made such an impression on me- the memories are still emblazoned into my brain. It is my favorite place in the world. There are some NASA astronauts who say it is their favorite spot on the Earth to look at from space. Talk about Jehovah's creative power and love- go here to see it. It is such an emotional place. Flying over it twice this summer and seeing you guys' pictures will hold me over till I get to go again! I am so glad you guys went and enjoyed it so much. You have beautiful pictures too- the one with the snowcapped peak in the background is absolutely gorgeous. Medano Creek must have been really cold to cross in those temperatures!!!! ha ha. I remember it was cold and the temps were in the high 70's! I hope you guys discover some more special places on your journey.
Wow! I never saw so much sand without the ocean in the background!! Beautiful!!
I wish I was young and dashing and with you!!!! I am sooooooooooo jealous! The pictures and descriptions are awesome! It really does deepen your love and appreciation for Jehovah when you experience his beautiful creation, doesn't it? Oh, and, . . . I miss you great big bunches.
